Multi-Cast Switches For “Colorless Directionless Contentionless” ROADMs
We provide a proprietary switching solution for 100G coherent systems such as our Multi-Cast Switch (MCS) product line. Our 4x4 and cascadable 4x16 Multi-Cast Switch modules for CDC ROADMs efficiently allocate bandwidth and signal routing in 100G and higher data rate networks. The Multi-Cast Switch provides scalable contentionless operation to achieve the highest traffic management efficiency, optimizing traffic flows in 100G coherent systems. Our MCS uses our PLC photonic integration platform and consists of a complex array of switches, splitters, waveguides, taps, crossings and other functional elements manufactured on Silicon wafers using standard semiconductor processing equipment.
NeoPhotonics Multicast Switches are designed to be used in a next generation ROADM node to direct any wavelength to any port (Colorless), accept input wavelength channels from multiple different directions (Directionless), and be able to drop two identical wavelengths from different directions through the same switch (Contentionless), thereby increasing network flexibility and efficiency.
NeoPhotonics MCSs are designed to be modular in order to reduce first install costs of contentionless ROADMs and to provide customers with a “pay as you grow” approach for future degree and add/drop port expansion. For example, for degree expansion, after first installing a 4x16 MCS for 4 directions, a second one can be installed as needed, and without disrupting traffic, to achieve an 8x16 configuration, which accommodates 8 directions and provides 16 add/drop ports. A third module achieves 12x16 and a fourth achieves 16x16. Similarly, for add/drop port expansion, additional MCSs can be added to additional WSS ports to achieve Nx32, Nx48 and so on.
