Dr. Christoph Pfistner is scheduled to represent NeoPhotonics at the European Conference on Optical Communications (ECOC), which will be held in Geneva, Switzerland and is the leading conference in Europe on fiber optic components. He is also scheduled to present at the FTTH Conference and Expo, which will be held in Orlando, Florida and is the leading conference on Fiber-To-The-Home in North America. Dr. Yatao Yang, Vice President of Engineering, is scheduled to speak at the Broadband Forum (BBF) Meeting in Shanghai on the latest developments in Optical Time-Domain Reflectometers (OTDR) for Passive Optical Networks (PON).
The talk at ECOC is scheduled for Tuesday, September 20th, 2011, from 1:10 to 1:40 PM CET, and will cover options for expanding future access network capacity beyond 10G data rates. The discussion will include various types of Optical Distribution Networks (ODN) as well as different multiplexing techniques such as Time Division Multiplexing (TDM), Wavelength Division Multiplexing (WDM) and Frequency Division Multiplexing (FDM). The presentation will cover pros and cons of each approach in terms of overall performance, backward compatibility and projected cost, as well as the status of current developments.
The talk at the BBF is scheduled for Tuesday, September 20th, 2011, from 11:30am to noon CT, in Shanghai, China, and will cover options for fiber monitoring trough OTDR in Passive Optical Networks. The presentation will include detection of fiber bends and cuts through measurement of Rayleigh backscattering from the entire ODN as well as monitoring of individual drop fibers through signal reflections from each Optical Network Termination (ONT) module. Both in-band approaches operating at wavelengths of 1310nm or 1490nm as well as out of band solutions in the 16xx nm window will be discussed.
The talk at the 2nd WDM-PON Workshop during the FTTH Conference is scheduled for Tuesday September 27th, 2011, in Orlando, Florida, and will cover WDM PON architectures currently investigated for future use in high bandwidth optical access networks. The discussion will include "colorless" versions where the individual ONT transceivers will be seeded from the Optical Line Terminal (OLT), "colored" versions where each ONT gets assigned a pair of fixed CWDM or DWDM wavelengths, and "coherent" versions where coherent receiver technology is used to select the appropriate wavelength out of a wavelength pool at each ONT. The discussion will also address potential future developments in PIC and DSP technology designed to provide coherent solutions for access networks.
