NeoPhotonics Names Broadcom Executive Rajiv Ramaswami to Board of Directors
Former Cisco Executive Brings Wealth of Industry Experience to the
NeoPhotonics Board
SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Mar. 7, 2014--
NeoPhotonics (NYSE: NPTN) today announced the appointment of Dr. Rajiv
Ramaswami to the company’s Board of Directors.
Dr. Ramaswami currently serves as Broadcom's Executive Vice President
and General Manager of the Infrastructure & Networking Group, where he
is responsible for Ethernet controller, switching and physical layer
products, optical solutions, storage products, and security and embedded
processors.
From 2002 to 2010, Dr. Ramaswami served as Vice President and General
Manager for a variety of business units in optical, switching and
storage networking at Cisco Systems, most recently the General Manager
of the Cloud Services and Switching Technology Group. Prior to Cisco, he
served in various technical and leadership positions at Xros, Tellabs
and IBM's Thomas J. Watson Research Center.
“I know NeoPhotonics quite well from serving on their technical advisory
board for the past four years. During that time the company’s advances
in PIC technology have enabled it to become a leading provider of
integrated components for Coherent and other high speed network
applications,” said Dr. Ramaswami. “Given trends in wireless and
wireline networks, and in data center and enterprise networking
requirements, I believe the need will only grow for this type of core
technology, and lead to further advances in systems features and
benefits.”
“Rajiv has a tremendous amount of experience in technology strategy and
telecom networking,” said Tim Jenks, CEO and Chairman of the Board. “His
achievements and insights for business expansion in these areas can
bring an important new dimension to our Board.”
Dr. Ramaswami holds M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering
from the University of California, Berkeley and a B. Tech. degree from
the Indian Institute of Technology in Madras. He holds 34 U.S. patents
primarily in optical networking and is a Fellow of the Institute of
Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE).
