The NeoPhotonics External Cavity nano-ITLA integrates our proprietary cooled External Cavity Laser (ECL) technology in a miniaturized package that is 40% smaller than our industry leading micro-ITLA product. This new smaller form factor allows for use in next generation coherent modules and reduced size line cards. The long cavity length of our ECL gives a pure optical signal with the narrowest linewidth in the industry. In coherent systems, any error in the phase of the signal and reference lasers, as represented by that laser’s linewidth, will cause errors in the extracted phase information from the signal. Consequently, lasers with stable phase or, equivalently, a narrow linewidth, become critical, especially for higher order modulation schemes such as 16QAM and 64QAM.

Designed for high baud rate line cards, the NeoPhotonics High Bandwidth Coherent Receiver provides advanced demodulation to analyze the state-of-polarization and optical phase of a phase-modulated signal relative to an externally-supplied optical reference. This enables the recovery of the phase-polarization constellation of 200 Gbps Dual Polarization Quadrature Phase Shift Keyed (DP-DQPSK) format signals as well as 600 Gbps 64-QAM (Quadrature Amplitude Modulation) format signals. The High Bandwidth ICR incorporates four balanced photodiodes with four differential linear amplifiers to provide four output channels at 64 GBaud and above. The form factor of the High Bandwidth Coherent Receiver is compliant with Optical Internetworking Forum standard Implementation Agreement for Micro Integrated Intradyne Coherent Receivers; IA # OIF-DPC-MRX-02.0.

NeoPhotonics HB-CDM is implemented in a small form factor (25 x 12 x 5 mm) package which co-packages a linear, quad-channel, differential 64 GBaud driver with an Indium Phosphide based Mach-Zehnder (MZ) quadrature modulator chip. It provides efficient coherent multi-level modulation formats, such as DP-QPSK, DP-16QAM and DP-64QAM, to support coherent transmission up to 64GBaud.

Being compliant to the OIF’s Implementation Agreement OIF-HB-CDM-01.0 “High Bandwidth Coherent Driver Modulator” (www.oiforum.com), NeoPhotonics HB-CDM guarantees a 3dB EO bandwidth of >40GHz.
NeoPhotonics HB-CDM is optimally designed to be used in 400/600 Gbps coherent transceiver modules and in line-card applications which leverage its small size, high bandwidth and low power dissipation (4.5W max). The integration of driver and modulator into the same package provides advantageous signal integrity, low PCB’s space requirements, easy mounting, and single-component management.

The RF driver is digitally controlled through a Serial Peripheral Interface (SPI) which allows per-channel gain and peaking control, peak detectors reading, die temperature reading, and squelch functions.

The long cavity length of our ECL gives a pure optical signal with the narrowest linewidth in the industry. Designed for high-density line cards and CFP2 pluggable transceivers, the NeoPhotonics Micro-Coherent Receiver provides advanced demodulation to analyze the state-of-polarization and optical phase of a phase-modulated signal relative to an externally-supplied optical reference. This enables the recovery of the phase-polarization constellation of 100 G/s Dual Polarization Quadrature Phase Shift Keyed (DP-DQPSK) format signals as well as 8-QAM (Quadrature Amplitude Modulation) and 200 Gbps 16-QAM format signals. This ICR is also suitable for 64QAM signals. The ICR incorporates four sets of high-sensitivity balanced photodiodes with four differential linear amplifiers to provide four output channels at 32 GBaud and above. Coherent receiver is compliant with Optical Internetworking Forum standard “Implementation Agreement for Integrated Dual Polarization Micro-Intradyne Coherent Receivers” OIF-DPC-MRX-02.0.
